Exploring off of Loveland Pass today on the Continental Divide. There were a lot of people taking the alternate route off I-70 to head up to the mountains, but instead of going up the trail with the crowds, we went down.

It was lovely.

Cubbie, our now-almost-four-month-old-puppy, finished Puppy Kindergarten tonight.

I’ll tell ya, it wasn’t an easy ride; there were times that he just would have nothing to do with treats or commands, but just wanted to play with the other dogs. Oh, and there was that other time where he pooped in the middle of class when Dave was out of town… you know, typical puppy behavior.

That’s why when we went into the Puppy “Graduation” class tonight, we were hopeful and curious to see the turn out.

After an hour and a half of competition categories that scored each puppy with a specific number of points, Cubbie and his other two litter mates got the first three places in the class.

So of course, as a mommy, I have to brag about Cubbie being first place two out of the four events, and receiving the “Best Puppy Award”. Obviously we couldn’t be prouder

As Dave and I say, we hope this is the first title of many to come!

In yesterday’s post, I asked if anyone knew the reasoning behind The Broadmoor’s small “a” in their logo.

From my understanding, it was because of the rivalry between Penrose, the found of The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, and William Jackson Palmer, the man who founded the Antler’s Hotel in Colorado Springs. Penrose had The Broadmoor’s logo created with a small “a” out of egotistical reasons that his hotel was not only better, but that he would own it one day.

Which he did.

If anyone has a different story or theory, please do share. This is the one that I’ve been told when talking to the staff at The Broadmoor (I’m sure they are not biased :P) and read a little online.

Happy July. Can you believe it?

Oh, and is it still only Tuesday? (or Wednesday, depending on when you visit :D)

A shortened week is something I am very much excited for. As much as I love (yes, love) being busy, I’m ready for a long weekend.

Not only after the weekend of “the Pink Eyes” and having some work to do, not really sleeping a whole lot since getting the puppy (excellent birth control, by the way), but today…

…on my way home, I got a flat tire. Can’t remember when, if ever, I’ve had one by myself.

So, I’m at the intersection of 6th and Monaco in Denver at a stoplight. Turns green, and I start driving. Don’t know when exactly, but I started hearing a funny noise over the loud radio in my car.

Immediately turn off the radio, listen to my car, and come to the conclusion that I must have a flat tire somehow. Calling my husband frantically, asking if I should continue driving to the house (was only 6 blocks south and 6 blocks west away), then I was already at 12th by the time he answered and I explained the situation… so it was decided that I continue to drive slow and just make it to the house. It was torn in several places by the time I rolled up.

At the very least, I think I can get this resolved tomorrow — but man, I’m soooo looking forward to the four-day weekend.

Was up at Johnson & Wales this afternoon walking, and came across the ‘Benefactor’s Garden’ which represents the founding institutions that supported Johnson & Wales when it opened in Denver in 1999.

One of the benches is The Broadmoor — a special place to me and my husband. We got married outside at the Colorado Springs resort back in September 2006.

Just neat to see the famous logo that brings back memories in our part of town. Now, who knows the correct answer to why The Broadmoor’s “a” is small? Stay tuned for the answer unless you want to beat me to it…

First, I want to thank everyone for the kind comments and emails about the unfortunate condition from Friday.

We are in the clear and have been un-contagious — so much that our friends that were visiting came down to spend Saturday night with us.

Anyway, we ended up going to The Chophouse in downtown Denver for dinner — oh.my.gosh. that was so much food. After the apps, soups/salads/bread and the very good beer, it was pretty much impossible for each of us to finish our main courses. One of the best restaurants to dine at downtown, though.

But we still opted to go out to a bar; had one beer, and said agreed we needed to go home… right now. Too much food.

Sometimes even the blurry ones come out pretty cool with the dancing lights in the night, and I wanted to share them with you.

I’m surprised at how much having a dog has opened my eyes to look around our great neighborhood.

Along with all the cute, old houses to adore this morning, I met a few people who were putting on garage sales on a couple of our blocks.

Well at 6:30 in the morning I was incredibly early for the start time of 9am, but that doesn’t mean that a girl can’t look!

Actually, after I took Mr. Cub back home, I drove back to a house that I found the sweetest homemade shelving unit at 7:15 and handed the requested $5 bill over to the lady. She was really excited to hear of my plans of how I’d use it and was glad it was going to a good home.

It used to hold CDs, but right away I knew it would be a perfect match for all my new vintage cameras

I’ve been literally trying to find something to put in that small (less than one foot deep so I can still open the door) space between my closet and the window, and have re-arranged my office many times over. Nothing felt right until now.

This is the perfect find, if I do say so myself, and I know my mother-in-law would be proud!

I can’t believe it. We have friends that are visiting from out of town, and we can’t see them.

It all started off with my right eye being a little red…then my left eye became a little red… then I could barely open my eyes because of the burning and swollen factor this morning. Then my husband’s eye slowly turned red today.

Went to the eye doc, and for the first time since elementary school, I have pink eye. Well, eyes. So does he. And we’re blaming the dog.

So there goes our weekend in the mountains. Instead we’ll putz around the house, watch some movies and I’ll get some needed work done.
